Shin
guards protect the shins from the occasional heel kick by the rear of the
skate blade. A required item of safety equipment, they are available in
sporting goods stores everywhere, and priced under $10.00.
The
shin guards are simply sliped under the skin suit or tights, over the shin.
While they come with straps, these are not necessary due to the tights
holding them in place.

If
you look very closely, you can just barely make out the shin guards inside
the skinsuit on this pair of legs. This is a USA Team skin, which has pouches
inside to hold the shin guards in place, even when not being worn.
